Authorities said an officer is investigating the death of a person on the runway at the Austin, Texas, airport, where a Southwest Airlines flight change policy reported that the person had seen the landing and tried to avoid the collision, Officials said.

The airline said in a statement that Flight 1392, a flight from Dallas to Southwest Airlines Cancellation Policy, was approved to land at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and landed safely on the scheduled runway at 8:12 pm. local time. But the aircraft then "defrauded to avoid one person, who appeared on runway 17R shortly after touchdown," the airline said.

"The plane "quickly came to a secure stop" and therefore the pilots reported the incident to traffic controllers, Southwest Manage Booking said." After receiving instructions, the pilots parked the aircraft at a gate and alighted from the passengers and crew. There were no injuries on the ship, the company said.

The airport said in a statement on Twitter late Thursday that officials "knew of one person who was hit and killed on runway 17R by a landing plane."

Investigators found the person on the runway, it said in another tweet. "When they discovered the person on the runway it was clear what had happened," the airport spokesman, Mandy McClendon, said in a telephone interview on Friday. "The plane hit the person."

He said it was an "initial search" based on "information received from first responders".

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said in a statement that it departed at the address for the airport at 3600 Rashtrapati Bhavan, at 8:22 p.m. To respond to a report of a person "on the runway possibly hit by an airplane."

The agency later stated that an adult was declared dead at the scene, leaving no further information about the person's identity as to whether he was a worker. The Austin Police Department said Friday that the person killed was an adult man.

"No life-saving measures were taken when asked if they received the medals," said Capt. Darren Noah, a spokesman for the Southwest Customer Services, in an interview on Friday. "The person was clearly dead."

What is happening inside the dreaded Thunderstorm of Córdoba Province?
The aircraft had broken into the coupling of its left engine, which was covering the engine, CBS News reported, publishing a picture of the damage. It was not immediately clear how the aircraft was damaged or whether the pilots believed the plane hit the person.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that a Boeing 737 pilot reported seeing a person on the runway shortly after the plane collapsed. The driver of an airport operation vehicle later reported finding the victim on the runway, the agency said.

The Police Department and the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday morning.

Our Southwest hearts reach the person involved, and that we sincerely thank our crew for his or her professionalism and rapid response," Southwest said."
